HICKORY — The Western Piedmont Council of Governments Regional Housing Authority gave notice that it will hold a public hearing Thursday, July 9, 2026, on a proposed revision to the WPCOG Administrative Plan that would raise the minimum monthly rent from $0 to $50, effective Aug. 1, 2026.
The notice, posted May 19 on the WPCOG news page, says the hearing will be at the WPCOG office, 1880 2nd Ave. NW, Hickory, NC 28601. The meeting begins at 11 a.m., at which time any person wanting to be heard may appear.
The May 19 notice does not list how many households would be affected, whether the $50 figure is a floor for Housing Choice Voucher tenants, or whether exceptions would remain for hardship cases. Those details were not added here.
WPCOG’s listed operating hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Mailing address is P.O. Box 9026, Hickory, NC 28603. Phone numbers on the page include 828-322-9191.
The page does not report a later vote on the rent change.
