NEWTON — Catawba County Schools Superintendent Dr. Matt Stover announced the appointment of Devin Houston as Director of Maintenance after confirmation by the Board of Education at its May 18 meeting, the district said May 19, 2026.
“We are excited to continue promoting talented leaders from within our district,” Stover said. “Devin’s experience and dedication to Catawba County Schools have helped support safe and welcoming learning environments for our students and staff for many years.”
Houston brings 18 years of experience with Catawba County Schools and has served in a variety of operational and leadership roles across the district, CCS said. Most recently, he has served as Assistant Director of Construction and Maintenance for the past three years.
Throughout his career with CCS, Houston has served as Health and Environmental Coordinator and Custodial Specialist, co-managed several major construction and renovation projects, and supervised the day-to-day operations of the Construction and Maintenance Department, the district said.
Houston earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Appalachian State University.
“I look forward to continuing the strong standards established by my predecessors within the Maintenance Department,” Houston said. “Our mission is to provide facilities that are safe, comfortable, and secure for the students and staff of Catawba County Schools.”
The district said Houston is a Claremont resident. His wife, Kristin, is a teacher for Catawba County Schools, and their two children also attend CCS schools.

The May 19 notice does not list a salary, a vote tally from the May 18 meeting, or the name of the predecessor Houston succeeds.
