HICKORY — The City of Hickory presented its Business. Well Crafted. Legacy Award to HSM Solutions during the Aug. 4, 2026, City Council meeting, the city said Aug. 5.
Business Development Director Dave Leonetti presented the award to Mark S. Jones, HSM president and CEO, on behalf of the city’s Business Development Committee. The city cited more than 80 years of leadership, innovation, and service in Hickory.
HSM was founded in 1944 and is headquartered in Hickory. The city described it as a privately held, family-owned manufacturer of components and solutions for the furniture, transportation, bedding, and industrial markets. The company lists HEART values of Honesty, Execution, Accountability, Results, and Teamwork.
The notice said HSM has supported Hickory’s economic-development goals through job creation, workforce investment, and local partnerships, and that it continues to invest in people, facilities, and regional collaborations. Through a Community Giving Program and employee-driven work, the city said HSM supports causes tied to food, shelter, education, and healthy lifestyles. Educational partners named include Lenoir-Rhyne University, Catawba Valley Community College, Western Piedmont Community College, Appalachian State University, UNC Charlotte, and Western Carolina University.
“The Business. Well Crafted. Legacy Award recognizes companies that have made enduring, positive contributions to Hickory’s economic strength and community well-being,” Leonetti said. “HSM’s long history, values-driven leadership, and deep commitment to this region make it an exemplary honoree.”
“Parks C. Underdown started Hickory Springs Manufacturing Company more than 80 years ago in the community of Brookford with an unwavering focus of serving customers and appreciating the employees that makeup the company,” HSM Chairman David F. Underdown said.
