CATAWBA COUNTY — North Carolina State Auditor Dave Boliek spoke Wednesday evening at a free program hosted by the Old North State Republican Men’s Club.
Scott Gilleland, in a Facebook invitation posted ahead of the meeting, urged residents who had been thinking about getting involved, meeting people, or learning what the club is about to attend. “Everyone is welcome — bring a friend and come be a part of what we’re building right here in Catawba County,” he wrote. He described an outstanding program with two speakers.
White House adviser Kevin Cline, a Newton-Conover High School graduate, was also on the program.
American and North Carolina flags stood behind the podium as Boliek addressed the room.
Gilleland said the club is growing and looking beyond the meeting room.
“Our club is expanding, it’s growing, we are working hard and excited about, not only being a Republican club but getting out in the community, helping charities like the crisis pregnancy center, motivating young people to get involved and look forward to several upcoming speakers,” he said. “We want to connect local, state and federal politics.”
The club’s next meeting is Oct. 1. The speaker will be North Carolina Republican Party Chairman Jason Simmons.
