HICKORY — The Hickory Police Department says its October P.A.C.T. — Pay Attention in City Traffic — enforcement will concentrate on three stretches of city roadway.
Officers will work Falling Creek Road; 8th Avenue NW and 8th Avenue NE from 2nd Street NE to 4th Street Drive NW; and 33rd Avenue NW and 4th Street Boulevard NW from North Center Street to 39th Avenue Drive NW, according to a city notice posted Oct. 1.
The department says the focus is speeding, distracted driving, following too close, and other traffic violations.
The same notice asks pedestrians to use crosswalks or other designated crossings, obey pedestrian signals, and wear reflective material when walking at night. It tells drivers to watch for people on foot at crossings and when turning, and it reminds the public that bicycles are treated as vehicles and must follow the same traffic laws, including travel in the same direction as other traffic and stopping for lights and stop signs.
The department thanks residents for helping keep city roads safer for drivers, cyclists, and people on foot.
