Catawba County voters with questions about photo ID and other recent changes to how North Carolina runs its elections will have a chance to ask one of the people who oversees local voting.
Felicia Culbreath-Setzer, a member of the Catawba County Board of Elections, is the featured speaker at the NAACP Catawba County Branch’s October meeting. The meeting starts at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, at Mt. Olin AME Zion Church, 2583 Smyre Farm Road in Newton.
According to the branch, Culbreath-Setzer will go over changes in voting, explain the state’s voter identification requirement and take questions from the audience, including questions about the safety and security of the voting process. The branch is inviting the public, not just members.
Culbreath-Setzer, a Democrat from Newton’s Sweetwater precinct, has served on the county elections board since 2021, according to the county’s board history. The current five-member board also includes Barry R. Cheney, David Hood, Thomas Luckadoo and R. Kelsey Williams. Members serve two-year terms and are appointed by the State Board of Elections from names the two major parties submit.
The branch normally meets the second Sunday of each month at Mt. Olin.
Voters who want to check what forms of photo ID are accepted, and what to do without one, can find the list on the State Board of Elections voter ID page.
