HICKORY — Hickory City Schools said Sept. 2, 2026, that it is celebrating continued academic progress after the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction released 2025-2026 accountability results.
The district said six Hickory City Schools campuses met academic growth expectations this year: Oakwood Elementary, Viewmont Elementary, Grandview Middle, Northview Middle, Hickory Career & Arts Magnet (HCAM), and Hickory High.
Highlights listed on the district page:
- Oakwood Elementary earned a B and met growth, continuing strong academic performance, the district said.
- Hickory Career & Arts Magnet earned a B and met growth, marking the fourth consecutive year the school has earned a B School Performance Grade.
- Hickory High met growth while increasing its overall School Performance Score from 59 to 67.
- Northview Middle met growth and increased its School Performance Score from 49 to 56, moving from a D to a C.
- Viewmont Elementary met growth, an improvement from the previous year when the school did not meet growth.
- Grandview Middle met academic growth expectations in 2025-2026, following a year in which the school exceeded growth expectations in 2024-2025.
The district tied the results to Empowering Academic Excellence, a goal of the Hickory City Schools 2024-2030 Strategic Plan. HCS said it remains committed to comprehensive student support, high-quality instructional resources, and professional development.
“We are encouraged by the progress we see across our schools. Having six schools meet academic growth expectations demonstrates the hard work taking place in our classrooms each day. We are proud of our students, teachers, staff, and school leaders, and we will continue building on this progress while remaining focused on ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed,” Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Griffin said.
The Sept. 2 page does not list letter grades or growth status for Longview Elementary, Southwest Primary, or W. M. Jenkins Elementary. Those schools were not added here.
