HICKORY — The Hickory Police Department is partnering with Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism to host the annual Back to School Bash from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at Taft Broome Park, the City of Hickory said July 20, 2026.
The city said the bash is meant to help students of all ages start the school year with confidence by giving out free backpacks and school supplies. Children who attend can also get free haircuts and face painting, plus food. Vendor booths are listed with both resources and activities.
Modern Nissan of Hickory is the presenting sponsor for this year’s event. Additional support is listed from The Wonder Group, Walmart, Cosmo Motors, Mike Johnson’s Hickory Toyota, and Sport Clips Haircuts.

The July 20 notice does not list how many backpacks will be given out, whether supplies are first-come, a rain location, or a sign-up requirement.
