NEWTON — The Catawba County Board of Commissioners met March 16, 2026, at 7 p.m. and adjourned at 7:55 p.m. into closed session, according to the county recap published March 17.
The board approved minutes from the March 2 regular meeting and closed session.
Commissioner Abernethy recommended reappointments to the Nursing & Rest Home Community Advisory Committee: Warren Elston, Craig Pinto, and Marea Pinto, each to a second term expiring April 7, 2029. Approved.
County Manager Mary Furtado presented a Strategic Plan update. The recap does not list plan metrics from that presentation.
Consent items, both approved:
1. February tax work: 24 releases totaling $6,741.55, four refunds totaling $43,586.13, and 53 motor-vehicle bill adjustments/refunds totaling $4,787.26.
2. A resolution accepting the tax collector’s report and directing advertisement of delinquent tax liens as prescribed by N.C.G.S. 105-369.
Manager’s report: a contingency transfer of $26,353 to the Lake Norman Marine Commission for a contract. The recap said Catawba County expects 75% of that expense to return as revenue from the other three LNMC member counties.
Attorney’s report: staff asked the board to authorize the county manager to assess joining an opioid-litigation settlement, execute documents needed to join the Six Remnant Defendants Settlement, and provide documents to facilitate the settlement. Approved.
