NEWTON — The City of Newton held a ribbon-cutting March 20, 2026, for Chilangos Tacos-n-Cantina at 30 East 1st St., calling it a new downtown dining stop with Mexican food and an outdoor patio.
“Small businesses like Chilangos are the backbone of our downtown,” Mayor Jerry T. Hodge said. “We are thrilled to welcome Donna and Roger Zamora and their team to Newton. Their investment adds new energy to downtown and gives residents and visitors another wonderful place to experience the unique charm of our city.”
Donna and Roger Zamora, owners of Los Compadres restaurants in Hickory, Hildebran, and Valdese, said the Newton opening is a professional milestone and a personal dream.
“Chilangos is about sharing the authentic flavors of Mexico City street food,” Donna Zamora said. “We’re excited to welcome people to a place where they can come together over great food. We’re excited to be part of Downtown Newton and grateful for the support we’ve already received.”
