CLAREMONT — The City of Claremont said Aug. 12, 2026, that it is celebrating Prysmian’s $1 billion investment in its Claremont facility, which the city said will bring approximately 900,000 square feet of new manufacturing and research space and hundreds of new jobs.
The expansion will include a new glass factory, expanded fiber-optic cable manufacturing, and new research and development facilities, according to the city page. Prysmian plans to hold a groundbreaking ceremony in Claremont in mid-September.
Mayor Shawn R. Brown, described by the city as a lifelong Claremont resident, said the investment is significant for the city and its residents.
“An investment of this magnitude is genuinely transformational for a community like Claremont. When a company of Prysmian’s stature commits to creating hundreds of new jobs and investing more than a billion dollars right here, it changes what is possible for our residents, our families, and our future.”
Brown said he has seen fiber-optic and telecommunications growth firsthand.
“I have personally seen the growth in the fiber optic and telecom industry firsthand, and I’m personally grateful for the continued investment that Prysmian is making here. We are deeply proud and incredibly excited about what this means for our city. Prysmian is truly a cornerstone of industry in the City of Claremont.”
The city said it is proud to support Prysmian’s continued growth and the opportunities the investment will bring to the community and the region.
A joint public hearing of the Catawba County Board of Commissioners and Claremont City Council on local incentives associated with the expansion was listed for Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 6:30 p.m. at the Hickory Metro Convention Center.
The Aug. 12 Claremont page does not list a job-count target beyond “hundreds,” a wage figure, or a grant amount. Those numbers were not added from other agencies.
