LONG VIEW — The Long View Police Department is searching a property at 2014 7th Avenue SW after an anonymous tip that possible human remains may be buried there, the department said in a Sept. 29 release.
Police said they began investigating after the tip and asked the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation for help. That work led to a search warrant for the property. Investigators from Long View police and the SBI have started the search and will continue working to determine whether the tip is valid, the release said.
The department listed the address as 2014 7th Avenue SW in Hickory. Long View is a separate town that borders Hickory; 7th Avenue SW in that corridor is under Long View’s jurisdiction for this investigation.
While the search continues, 7th Avenue SW is closed between 19th Street SW and 21st Street SW. The department asked residents and drivers to avoid the area and use other routes.
Police said there is no known threat to the public. Anyone with information is asked to call the Long View Police Department at 828-327-2343. The investigation remains active, and the department said it will release more information as it can.
The SBI had not posted a separate news release about the Long View search on its newsroom pages as of Tuesday evening.
