The June 16 adopted budget holds the property tax rate at .3985 cents per $100 valuation, funds $120 million toward Catawba County Schools middle-school expansions, and adds public-safety staffing.
The board also reappointed Deanna Taylor to the CVCC trustees and filled Public Health Board, aging, and agriculture seats before adjourning at 7:42 p.m.
The board also advertised EMS Week, approved April tax releases and refunds, and moved $5,000 in contingency to Catawba-Wateree.
The manager’s May 11 plan would set the rate at 42.35 cents per $100 and send about $8.1 million in new tax to a $264 million facility-needs strategy.
The 7 p.m. meeting also surplus-listed a CVMC Hickory property for a $240,000 Lutheran Home offer and recognized Civic Leadership Academy graduates.
After CW-DMAG declared Stage 2 of the Low Inflow Protocol on May 1, Hickory entered Stage 2 under its Water Shortage Response Plan, with odd/even irrigation days and listed penalties.
The Newton attorney has served on the foundation board since 2013, previously as chair; FY 2025 figures listed 1,665 jobs and more than $116 million in new payrolls.
Consent also assigned the Blue Ridge Biofuels lease, surplus-listed retiring Chief Brian Kelly’s badge and weapon, and added map review officers for Maiden, Long View, and the Town of Catawba.
The board also approved February tax releases and refunds and moved $26,353 in contingency to the Lake Norman Marine Commission.
