CONOVER — Charlotte industrial redeveloper Forsite Development is marketing the former Kroehler Furniture plant on Conover Boulevard East for reuse as manufacturing space, after the longtime furniture operation shut down at the end of 2025.
Charlotte Business Journal reported that Forsite paid $12 million for the Conover facility and plans to revamp the site for industrial manufacturers. Catawba County tax rolls pulled Friday still listed the main plant parcels under Corvair Furniture Mfg. Co. Inc. and Kroehler Furniture Mfg. Co. Inc., with no 2026 sale yet posted on the sales tabs — so the deed details have not been independently confirmed in county ownership rolls.
What sits on Conover Blvd E
County tax cards identify two adjacent parcels at 1800 and 1802 Conover Blvd E:
- 1800 (PIN 375109171367): about 29.13 acres, 2026 tax value $11.29 million, assessed building area 293,289 square feet under Corvair Furniture Mfg. Co. Inc.
- 1802 (PIN 375109179223): about 8.88 acres, 2026 tax value $285,500, 12,000-square-foot warehouse under Kroehler Furniture Mfg. Co. Inc.
Commercial broker The Stump Corporation lists the Kroehler complex as Sold, marketing 278,100 square feet that had been offered at $14 million. Forsite’s own Available Properties page lists a Conover Building of about 278,000 square feet (the company page prints “800 Conover Blvd E,” almost certainly a typo for 1800).
From furniture shutdown to industrial pitch
Kroehler’s Conover plant closed at year-end 2025 after parent American Signature Inc. filed Chapter 11 in Delaware (case 25-12105, Nov. 22, 2025). North Carolina Commerce’s WARN listings show notice #202500066 for Kroehler Furniture Co. at 1800 Conover Blvd E — a permanent closure with layoff/closure dates Dec. 30–31, 2025, and 275 workers affected on the state table. Some contemporaneous coverage cited a company letter saying about 208 employees; CFN uses the WARN figure unless a primary document revises it.
Forsite describes itself as a Charlotte industrial redeveloper. The Conover listing fits that model: take a large manufacturing box out of furniture use and pitch it to other industrial tenants — the same corridor where Catawba County has been chasing advanced manufacturing and fiber-related investment, including recent Prysmian expansion work in neighboring Claremont.
Catawba First News will update this story when the Register of Deeds and tax owner rolls reflect the recorded transfer.
