HICKORY — The Hickory Police Department will take part in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics on Friday, May 8, 2026, the city said May 4, 2026.
The run begins at HPD headquarters at 9 a.m. Officers will go east on 2nd Avenue SW, through downtown Hickory, and back to the police department.
The city invited residents to meet the runners and take photos at two stops: Hickory City Hall, 76 North Center Street, and between the Sails on the Square.
Law enforcement from the Conover Police Department, Newton Police Department, Maiden Police Department, Long View Police Department, and the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office will join Hickory officers. The city described the run as an annual event that supports Special Olympics of North Carolina and local Special Olympics athletes. The May 4 notice does not list a finish time, a runner count, a rain plan, or how much prior Torch Runs raised.
