HICKORY — The City of Hickory is accepting applications for housing rehabilitation programs meant to improve housing conditions and help low- to moderate-income homeowners inside the city limits stay in their homes, the city said June 23, 2026.
The city said it is committed to promoting and protecting fair housing. The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in the sale or rental of housing based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, or disability. Applications are open for the Urgent Repair Program, which offers forgivable loans of up to $15,000 to eligible homeowners with special needs whose household income is at or below 50% of the statewide median, currently $48,950 for a family of four. Those funds can be used for urgent home repairs or accessibility modifications needed to help residents remain safely in their homes.

The June 23 notice does not list an application deadline, a waitlist, how many loans were closed last year, or other rehabilitation products beyond Urgent Repair.
